Pre review

I failed to follow-up with a Pre review a couple of weeks ago. Anyhow, I really enjoyed using the Pre, I think that Palm did a great job on WebOS and the device performs very well. I agree with many that the battery life isn’t what I prefer. The real fun will be when the SDK is available and senseless apps start rolling out. It’s always fun to play with silly little applications.

For now, I wait for the Blackberry Tour to be released on Sunday. That will be my device for the near future. I can’t give up the battery life that the Blackberry provides. One other thing is that the Pre reception isn’t up to par with the Curve. This will hopefully be resolved with upgrades in the future.

MotorStorm – Little Big Planet style!!

I haven’t played this game in weeks and so tonight I pop it in to find what new cool creations were out there.  I decided on the monster truck (how can you skip it!!) and off I was racing through the level.  I was laughing to myself as I was bouncing through the track much like the real game.  Too much fun!!

I even got to try out the paint gun in one of the levels which is a lot of fun.  If you haven’t given this game a shot, you’re missing out!!

The PS3 keypad

I picked this accessory up last week as over the Christmas break with my 360 being dead I was putting in a lot of time on my PS3 (SOCOM, Warhawk, LBP and Pacific Rift). With the lack of being able to use voice chat with friends from the XMB while in game and people sending me messages asking which game I was in, etc I found quickly that a keyboard would save A LOT time.
Anyhow, it’s nice to be able to rattle off messages quickly and the web browsing is much more desirable when going to non-bookmarked addresses. The cursor mode is really pretty cool, the keyboard becomes a touchpad like a laptop which again while browsing is pretty slick!
The only drawbacks are the price of $50 and the lack of backlighting on the keyboard that my XBOX Live! Messenger has.
This keypad can also be trained up with other devices as a keyboard. Hmm, I should try with my Touch Pro but I really don’t know what good that would be except for geeking out 🙂

Little Big Planet Fun!

Tonight I spent some time on the PS3 playing some SOCOM, MotorStorm 2 and Little Big Planet.
I forget sometimes how much fun LBP can be.  I jumped in and did some of the campaign but the real fun is in the community.  I played some user created Batman levels, Halloween, Christmas, Mirrors Edge, etc.  The most fun was this guy who must have spent a great amount of time on a Mario Bros knock-off level.  As I went though I had to take some pictures to share and when I was done I was simply in awe.  This game is really something special.  I hope to find more holiday like themes that the kids will like.  Too cool!!

Moved on to the Touch Pro

After using Treo’s for years and most recently an 800w for about six month and dealing with it’s numberous problems I decided on a change.  I decided on the Touch Pro.  I will admit, it was a transition from my front facing keyboard that I’ve had for years.  After two days I went back to the 800w and then a couple days later moved back to the Touch Pro and haven’t looked back.

I’ve had HTC devices before at work and always liked the quality of them, the parts and the phone are pretty darn nice!  The small things like having the stylus pulled out waking up the device is a great feature.

One frustration that I HAD was that I was answering the phone a lot in my pocket.  I used a great little app called “slide to unlock” (info here).  The communities on xda-developers and PPCgeeks have been great.  I have used a couple of hacks from there including disabling the SMS Sent notification and enabling the capability of forcing the phone to roam which is very handy when at the cabin.

The screen on this device is amazing!!  I feel that I can take advantage of so much more software with the extra real estate.  I have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, EV-DO Rev A, etc.  I can run Skype over Wi-Fi or EV-DO without issue, my Slingbox runs great and the YouTube client is fun.  I don’t us my phones as a MP3 player but streaming XM with C-ApiSRO which works on both Sirius and XM.

When it came down to waiting for the Treo Pro and hoping that it would fix the problems of the 800w I decided not to wait for such a little ‘upgrade’ if it could even be considered and upgrade.  Feature for feature on the 800w vs the Treo Pro is pretty much a wash.  I’ve gained so much more with the Touch Pro!!

I’m back – that was quick!

After two weeks on Gmail for my domain I couldn’t take it anymore on my Treo 800w.  I am back on Exchange.  While running OggSync was fine for calendar and contact integration, I just wasn’t happy with my email solution.  I tried Flexmail and Push Effect.  For some reason Flexmail seems pretty slow on Gmail and was a resource hog on my phone.  When I would get frustrated with that I would move to pocket outlook using Push Effect but the delay in SMS messages was far from push email.  I would also miss email alerts for some reason.

I ended up finding a hosted Exchange solution for cheap and am happy with it.  I just hope that it goes on for years 🙂  The next move I may make would be an Andriod phone using Gmail for my domain.  I imagine they will have a ActiveSync like integration.  Until there is something like it, I am not going to make this move again!!

DTV PC Streamer!

I am beta testing a new software from DirecTV that allows me to stream my DVR content to my PC. It works pretty slick!
