My new Treo 800w

I’ve had my new Treo for about a month. I’m really enjoying the new features. Higher res screen, GPS, Wi-Fi and faster processor. Other than what everyone is complaining about with battery life it’s the perfect phone for me. Most of my software has worked flawlessly. The one bummer is that I have to wait for the Sling client to be upgraded. It’s watchable but not full screen.

God of War: Chains of Olympus – PSP – Updated

I started playing this game tonight and I must say, for a PSP game it is top notch.

I’m only about 40 minutes in but the action is non-stop and a lot of fun. I’m usually not a ‘slasher’ game type fan but I do like the mystic history of the Spartans and the Persians.

One interesting encounter was a room with two women, you could ‘take care’ of them and get more XP. I was pretty surprised by the detail in the initial scene although they don’t show any of the deed taking place.

My timing of the buttons in sequence is really horrible at this point so I’m riding it out in easy mode right now. I look forward to finishing this soon and raising the difficulty for a bigger challenge.

Later!

**I finished this game on Saturday. I really had fun with this one, I don’t play many single player off-line games so for me to go through this and finish it says something. It has a nice setup for GOW 3 for the PS3 at the end 🙂 I will look forward to the new high-def version.

Rock Band at Best Buy Eagan

Sammy and I play the game in this video.  Pretty boring to watch as we’re not too emotional but it’s pretty fun.  I don’t like the design of the ‘bars’ to play with as the ‘circles’ that are used in Guitar Hero seem bigger and more friendly.  I found myself really trying to time it more with the bars because they are so small.  As for the drums, they are a lot of fun.  I don’t like the noise they make when you hit them.  I think it could have been a little less noisy.  Nobody was willing to sing for us.  We had a little crowd of BBY employees watching us suck it up 🙂

A mini review of the hardware.  The neck is pretty flimsy.  I don’t know what caused it but there was vibration in the guitar at one point.  There is a switch on the guitar which switches modes on the “whammy bar”.  It looks nicer than the GH guitars but I like the build of my GH3 better than this one.  The strumming switch has no click to it, it’s very smooth.  We both liked the thought of it before we played but after playing we agree that we didn’t like the feel.

Having fun with Halo 3

A few of us grown up kids went and got our Legendary Halo 3 on the midnight release 🙂 The campaign was fun at times with the multiplayer mode, the ending was lame though. Online I’ve been having a blast. I played some custom games the other night with my bro and his buddies. That was a lot of fun.
The really cool feature and probably really ignored by many is the online community at Bungie.net. You can take screen shots of your games, take videos of your games (this is limited to viewing on the 360) and share them with friends online or their 360. My friends and I will usually send each other pictures of each other getting blown up, etc. It adds to the trash talking which is always fun!

I think between Halo 3, Gears and GH3 coming soon I should be set for the winter!

Click on any of these below pictures for the full 1080 res.  The pictures look great.

Here is one where a guy and I traded grenades.  This was on a custom game that was a lot of fun.  The only way to score points was to “stick” someone with a grenade.  You would lose points if you killed yourself with your grenade though.  Whomever got to 25 points first won.

A great shot of my character 🙂

I was proudly smiling from the grave here.  I’m the one on the ground but he’s got a little something stuck in his head from before I went down 🙂

Free GPS software for windows mobile…

I’ve used Mapopolis and Telenav over the years. I’ve been looking for a cheap alternative and have yet to find all the features that I’ve become dependent on.

First MS Live Search for Windows Mobile – This application is nice for looking up business and is nicely integrated with your WM contacts. It’s feature rich, traffic info and business categories for finding POI.

Google Maps for Windows Mobile – this product is more limited. It’s simply a navigation software. It’s missing the business lookup and the integration with WM contacts which is discouraging as I prefer the map interface more that the Live Search product. Notice the buttons on the map, very easy to take advantage of map features.

Screen046.jpg

Compared to the products that I’ve used in the past they both lack important navigation features such as turn by turn voice alerts that are very nice to have.  Another complaint of both choices is that they don’t rotate with your driving. Telenav and Mapopolis always have you driving ‘up’ on your screen. On these two, when you are driving south you are going down on your screen. Can be confusing for some. When I have a lot of turns I end up actually rotating my Treo to match my direction 🙂

Both have traffic indicators which is nice as I can avoid the bad spots on the way through town on the way to the lake!

In the end, I find myself using Live Search more because of the better integration with WM and it does at least ‘beep’ when a turn is coming and also shows how far the next turn is rather that simply keeping an eye on the map.

XBOX 360 crapped again!

My 360 has been locking on me lately. It did it again tonight when I started my first game of Bomberman Live with Don & Eric. When I started it again I got the following. This is my third failed 360! I will be taking it back to GameStop for a swap tomorrow. Wow, this sucks!

Loving my 42″ Panasonic Plasma

We bought an HD set for upstairs a few weeks back. I finally got the speakers mounted and the wires cleaned up a bit. I put in a call to DirecTV for another free HD DVR 🙂 before commiting to this and they went for it.

This set is great for up here, it looks very clean against the wall and the brightness and color is awesome.

I brought the Wii upstairs as it probably a better area for it. An added bonus of the move is the nice picture viewing capability on the Wii. When we come home from the cabin, parade, etc we can checkout our pics. The kids love watching the slideshows!
